Notice on both forums that Rex does not offer any more information.
That may be because of lawyer advice or maybe the light has now come on.

Two guys I work with go 30 miles out from Hampton NH or the south shore of MA (at least then they are in Cape Cod bay), one has a 20' center console, the other a 19'. Nothing unusual about doing that among that crowd, and they are safe and experienced boaters.

But, those center consoles aren't inboard wake boats! I'd have to know more about the location before I condemned the guy for boating in salt, I think it seems foreign to some people but is not necessarily dangerous.

Hard to say where he headed out. Lots of water to chose from around Denmark.

Hopefully he didnt head west, that North Sea is known not to be particularly user friendly.

I, like a lot of others think there is some missing info.

1 - how far off shore to you have to go for watersports?
2 - He said his engine still doesnt go. So it wasnt a case of seeing it get hot and shutting it down. He must have kept running it till it blew.
3- Sure, he's pissed at the boat for quitting and putting him in a tough spot, but the boat quitting didnt put him in a tough spot, he put himself in a tough spot. Boats quit all the time, even a ways off shore. ( Think Townsend) Need to be prepared for that.
4 - sure there are many more unanswered questions, dont have time to ponder them all now.

My BIL fishes off shore Keys. Several miles out. 22-ish ft center console. His original boat had two outboards, sounds like a pretty good idea, but his new one has just one outboard. Still, I think he is smart enough boater to not get in trouble, but sometimes, in those situations , it can get to the point that you are no longer in control. There are risks involved.

My dad/Brother/Cousin were out on a twin engine fishing rig a few years back in the gulf. Calm day/seas. 40 miles off shore they snapped a prop shaft and it exited the hull completely. Lack of collar maybe?

Anywho, they jammed shop rags into the packing gland and cruised home slower on one engine. Anything can happen on the water and one needs to be especially prepared when at sea.

I would presume the weather came up on him without warning (or the forecast was overlooked).

If I were on the sea alone you better bet a couple people with capable boats would have my trip log for the day and I would have a really really nice ship to shore radio system to communicate with people who I knew would be available at the time I was out alone.

Also, I would be very well informed on the mechanical operation of my boat. Watch gauges diligently for issues and preemptively take care of those issues.

Yeah the belt came off. but shut the motor down when it gets hot and let it cool so you can face the nose of the boat into oncoming waves when needed so you aren't 100% helpless on the water? I mean these are pretty rudimentary things I would even think about on a calm small inland lake.

Plus, PCM has offered FOR A LONG TIME an on board spare parts kit which comes with a ton of easily replaceable parts that may fail and render you helpless on the water (which likely would have had a replacement belt/tensioner setup).

Yeah the boat failed but it sounds like a ton of other safety factors were overlooked.

Thanks for the link. It's interesting that the responses over on PN parallel the ones here. Yup, I feel there are holes in Rex's story!! I'm leaning towards the he, without cooling water, fried the engine idea!

Read most of their posts as well - definite parallels.   I'm a bit reminded of that spoiled little kid everyone used to know in their youth that at one time was caught with the hand in the cookie jar.... and then proclaims all the way through their punishment that it wasn't them, it was someone elses hand

I bought myself a boat for the ocean this summer. 23' Wellcraft with 5.7 Mercruiser..The ocean is definitely a whole different story than the lake. 4-6' seas, wake from yachts and funky suction/whirlpools from tanker ship wakes. I have a much greater respect for the ocean! Keep my marine radio by my side and my Sea Tow insurance current. Would not want to ever get stranded.

Angry people do stupid things, especially when they feel they have no one looking out for them. I can only assume this guy fried his engine after ignoring overheat lights, bells, whistles or whatever. No water pump running means big costly failure.

If PCM knew about a bad tensioner then they should have had the dealer instruct Rex not to operate his boat until a fix was implemented. If he had to run his engine to Leo the bow pointed into the wind to save his own butt, and it seized up—that’s a tragedy.

My sympathy for Rex ends with this: if you can’t share ALL the details of this, then don’t come looking for sympathy. On both PN and CCF, you showed up, disparaged the brand (probably all you wanted to do anyways) and stopped posting.

Rex—we bid Goodbye unless you tell us the rest of the details.

Maybe the judge will read our posts when he gets to court.
I don't think facts will ever be reported on here unless we happen to meet someone who has first hand information.
I would like to know Nautiques position on this since they took it on the cheek with posts in two forums.

I haven't posted much on CCF, but I read this thread today. First, this should be an easy fix, please tell us why it isn't. Replace the pully and move on. What else is wrong with the boat.

Second - IF YOU HAVE spoken with Ron Nace directly on the phone and if all the comments are what the issues is are true, He would have your boat fixed in days. I have spoken to Ron several time, phone, boat shows, at CC when visited, but never because I had an issue, but to thank CC for how fast they solved my issue.

I feel like there is more to this story, IMO

Unfortunately CC made it a policy not to respond to CCF or PN (although a couple trolls from the company lurk). We will only get once side of the story.

And frankly it's none of our business either, it's between those two. Unfortunately the OP has an agenda to try to strong arm the company by using the two sites. If he had done any homework he would have seen that new boats are a minority here. I do wonder if CC feels that they too are only getting part of the story. New boats maybe the minority here, but most people here like and respect the company, and are objective. The guy's story was obviously incomplete for a reason that suited him. I bet he cooked the engine.

I know that Gary is a user of Mop N Glow instant shine. I will have to modify my Kelly Blue Book / NADA , average of the two, and price for wholesale trade in to the Starr family. All based on these new revelations.

He's so far down on the list Paul it don't matter anyway,he may as well buy this .
He will miss out on the providence though, Quinner getting the first Hurricane pull. Powerful enough to pull your hair out yet tractable enough so as not to put a hair out of place. And one of a handful of Correct Crafts never used in Cypress Gardens.
